Setting the tone with a killer logo.
Pediatric dentist Dr. Paddy Smithwick, or Dr. Paddy as his patients call him, took over an existing dental clinic in Englewood, Colorado right outside of Denver. When he came to Noodle Wave Media for help, the clinic, Kids Mile High Pediatric Dentistry, had no distinct brand identity, logo or web presence. We were able to essentially start from scratch. However, transitioning a practice can get messy. Our goal was to ensure we created a fresh identity for the brand that would help Dr. Paddy bring in new patients to grow the practice without alienating the current patients.
We started by developing a logo. It was important for the brand to resonate with the greater Colorado community. In the ‘Think‘ phase of our process, we learned that Dr. Paddy embodied the outdoor spirit of the state and wanted to showcase that in his brand. This set the tone for the design elements of the website. We even incorporated a cartoon version of Dr. Paddy skiing the backcountry as well as landscape imagery of the Colorado mountains.
Dr. Paddy isn’t just outdoorsy, he’s also extremely relatable to kids and a seriously entertaining dentist (there is such a thing!). So when we moved into the marketing phase of the campaign, we had to make sure to communicate the “fun” aspect of Kids Mile High and Dr. Paddy while also using data to target high conversion audiences with relevant messages.
Identifying with Colorado
We love creating a unique identity for our clients. In this case, there was a seamless relationship between Dr. Paddy and Colorado. We built on this for the logo design by tipping our hat to the Colorado flag while working in a dental brand symbol.
With a mix of mountains, sky and even a cartoon of Dr. Paddy hitting the slopes, could a website get anymore Colorado? We created a punchy, clean and kid-friendly look and feel. Interspersed with easy-to-read copy in a slightly silly tone, the website truly reflects the brand’s personality.
The goal we developed in our ‘Feel‘ stage, was for the brand to to be fun, youthful and inspired by Colorado. We used the red, white, blue and gold color scheme from the state flag and for the logo, we created a play on its symbol. Obviously, an ode to Colorado alone isn’t enough to communicate that Kids Mile High is a dental clinic, so we added a tooth with two mountain peaks incorporated into the crown.
We helped Dr. Paddy make a smooth transition with his newly branded practice and we were able to hit major milestones. From new fans on social media to enhanced website traffic, the increase in eyes on Kids Mile High has led to more business for our favorite pediatric dentist.
